popolari a
terrorismo”.

Call
for the Defense and Extension of
Democratic Rights and Liberties!
The
courageous
„No“ in the vote on the EU-constitution led to the EU’s political
crisis
breaking out openly. European rulers fear a further upswing in the
working-class and people’s movement in their countries and are
increasing their
measures for direct oppression and for building up systems of
surveillance and
controlling.
They
want people to support the open use of
state
force or at least get used to it. The abolition of democratic rights
and
liberties, the fascization of the state apparatus and the institutions
of the
EU and the overt oppression are all being implemented by those in rule
under
the pretext of “fighting against
terrorism”.
According
to the
decision of the EU Council of December
27, 2001, any political action can be defined as terrorism “if it is
taken with
the goal…to illegitimately force a government or an international
organization
to do or refrain from doing something” (EU Official Gazette, December
28,
2001).
What
this
so-called “fight against terrorism” means for the people is shown by
recent
examples: On July 22, 2005, the Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes was
downright
executed by the British police in London under the pretext of “fighting
against
terrorism”. At the beginning of October, blockades of striking
dock-workers and
seamen in Marseille and Ajaccio/Corsika were attacked by French
“Anti-Terror
Units” and military forces employing tanks and helicopters. Outrage in
the
entire country and international solidarity led to the immediate
release of two
leaders of the strike who had been arrested. In Germany and in other
countries,
politically motivated dismissals in factories are increasing and broad
resistance is developing in opposition.
These
arbitrary acts and oppressive measures
are no isolated manifestations!
At
the
instigation of the Italian Berlusconi-government, Giuseppe Maj,
Guiseppe
Czeppel and Angelo D´Arcangel, members of the (new) Communist
Party of Italy,
were arrested in Paris in May and July 2005 for threadbare reasons. The
Berlusconi government is accusing them of “terrorist activities”
because they
call for the revolutionary liberation from exploitation and oppression
and a socialist
society in Italy and therefore support the building up of a (new)
Communist
Party in Italy. We demand their immediate release. Resistance against
mass
unemployment and the abolition of social achievements in Europe is
being
organized increasingly beyond national borders, a development which is
being
actively promoted by revolutionary forces.
Therefore,
when
in such a situation revolutionaries are arrested, it concerns all
democratic,
progressive and revolutionary people.
We
therefore
support a broad European Initiative for the Defense and the Extension
of
Democratic Rights and Liberties.
For
the close
cooperation and solidarity of the working-class and people’s movement
in the
European countries against the Europe of the international monopolies!
Long
live
international solidarity!
